Here are some of my TOP 5 TIPS for CAMPING WITH BABY
#1 INVEST IN GOOD CLOTHING TO KEEP BABY WARM AT NIGHT
My biggest worry was my daughter not being warm at night and so I did my research and found the 2 things that kept her warm all night. They were the best investment, and they are so light packable and perfect for camping. I would put the onesie on at night with some socks and then the sleeping bag and she would sleep ALL NIGHT!
- Merino Wool Onesie www.iksplor.com
- Baby Sleeping Bag www.morrisonoutdoors.com
#2 Bring 1 or 2 COMFORTS FROM HOME for sleeping
- We brought sheets from our bed to sleep on over our sleeping pads so that it was familiar for our baby. They will be able to recognize familiar smells and it all won’t feel like an unfamiliar place when they lay down to sleep.
DISCLAIMER: Please always follow the AAP recommendations for Safe Sleep, what you see in my blog is what I did with my child, and it worked for me.
#3 Try to schedule departure and arrival around NAP TIME! Trust me it will be worth it especially if the drive will be long!
#4 DON’T FORGET THE ESSENTIALS
- For camping I bring a small toiletry bag with EMERGENCY essentials like
- Thermometer, Tylenol & Motrin, Frida Baby Nose Sucker with a nose spray, and a tweezer for ticks
- DIAPERS and WIPES
- for diapers I tried to count how many I think I would need to cut down on the amount of stuff we have to pack but always a few extra!
- QUICK SNACKS and QUICK MEALS
- This is easy when they are babies because they mostly drink milk but as they get holder quick snacks are so ESSENTIAL to prevent a HANGRY BABY which is NO FUN at ALL!!!
If you want a more tips on packing essentials, check out my blog post: How to PACK for a Camping Trip: Minimalistic but efficient
#5 ” ENTERTAINMENT” Keeping them BUSY in the car or at the campsite.
Don’t get me wrong you do NOT need a basket full of toys ( I was amazed to see my daughter so intrigued by rocks, sticks, leaves, the grass , the tree) she barely played with the toys I bought along our 1st camping trips. Some thing we always bring are:
- Balls to kick around
- Coloring or painting activities
- Bubbles
- Scooter or Bike
- Digging tools
I also always like to a bring 1 NEW toy for the trip, especially for the car ride, it keeps them busy a little longer
Hope you found this helpful!
Camping with my baby has been rewarding and I hope you find it as rewarding too!
REMEMBER to always have FUN, go with the flow, breathe, and relax
Then again you will be in the great outdoors!
